SPEAKER AND PANEL MEMBER BIOGRAPHIES

Steven C. Dunn, Ph.D. CPIM

Steve Dunn is Chair of the Supply Chain and Operations Management department at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.  Dr. Dunn received his Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University in 1992, with an emphasis in Logistics and Operations Management.  He has taught courses in supply chain management, project management, business consulting, entrepreneurship, ethics, and strategy. 

In addition, Steve is on the faculty of Environmental Studies and teaches environmental management at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.  He is the founder and director of the Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Processes and Environmental Research (CASPER) at UWO.  Dr. Dunn has worked on environmental projects with The World Resources Institute, the US Agency for International Development and taught in the graduate environmental program at Lund University in Sweden.  He is a member of the United Nations Global Business Forum on the Environment.  Prior to his UWO experience, he was Associate Professor of Management and founder/director of the Institute for Business and the Environment at Idaho State University.

He is the author of numerous articles and has co-authored two books.  His articles have appeared in the Journal of Supply Chain Management, the International Journal of Production and Operations Management, the Journal of Business Logistics, the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, the Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, Industrial Management, Transportation Journal, and the International Journal of Logistics Management.  He has spoken at numerous international conferences and events. 

Prior to his academic career, Dr. Dunn spent over ten years with HJ Heinz, Inc. and John Labatt Ltd. in various managerial positions including project manager for corporate MRP II implementation and plant operations manager.   He is a partner with The Sage Group, a strategic management consulting firm whose clients have included Nabisco, Con-Agra, Lockheed-Martin, Farm Bureau Insurance and Kraft Foods.  His consulting and teaching assignments have taken him to Europe, Asia and South America.  Dr. Dunn is certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) by the Educational Resource Society and is a member of the Academy of Management, the Association of Applied Sports Psychology and the Canadian Association of Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Dr. Dunn’s current research focuses on the application of environmental management in the supply chain.  His most recent book, The Green Baron: A Business Parable on Ecolution was published in June. 

 

 

Paul Linzmeyer, President of Bay Towel Inc.

Prior to returning to his native state, Paul Linzmeyer has been leading companies in San Francisco, Chicago and Denver.  Returning in 1994, he assumed the role of President of Green Bay based Bay Towel, Inc.  After spending initial efforts focusing on the company’s business and marketing position, he founded (1999) the Employers Workforce Development Network, a private sector-led organization whose mission is to share resources and develop partnerships for creating world-class workplaces.  This private/public collaboration was one of the partners in the initial developments of a regional coalition to create an eighteen county North East Wisconsin economic community, now referred to as NEW North.  He was also the past Chair of the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Wisconsin Council on Workforce Investment.  He currently Chairs the Bay Area Workforce Development Board and the Industry committee of the Wisconsin Global Warming Task Force.

Along with Dr. Steven Dunn, he has implemented the non-financial strategies of Ecolution, Inc. at his company and seen considerable success from this process as a result.  Environmental Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion, Health and Wellness, Safety, and Investing in People strategies have led Bay Towel to appreciate record financial results and stakeholder (especially customer, team member, and community) loyalty.

 

Richard Young, PhD Pennsylvania State University

Rich Young spent over 12 years of his 20 year business career in the chemical industry prior to earning a PhD in supply chain management at the Pennsylvania State University, where he currently teaches and directs the MBA program.  He is a Fullbright Scholar, Senior Research Fellow of the Institute for Supply Chain Management and Research Associate at Penn State’s Center for Supply Chain Research.

 

   

William (Bill) Blackburn, President of William Blackburn Consulting, Ltd

William R. Blackburn is president of William Blackburn Consulting, Ltd., focusing on sustainability; environment, health and safety management; and emergency and crisis response. Until 2003 he was vice president and chief counsel, Corporate Environment, Health and Safety at Baxter International Inc., a global manufacturer of health-care products based in Deerfield, Illinois. Bill has over thirty years experience in environmental law and management. At Baxter, he led efforts in pioneering innovative environmental management standards, EHS performance measures, public reporting on corporate EHS and sustainability issues, environmental cost and income statements, and emergency response programs. He is a frequent lecturer on these subjects. His book, The Sustainability Handbook - The Complete Management Guide to Achieving Social, Economic, and Environmental Responsibility, was published by the Environmental Law Institute in 2007.

Before joining Baxter in 1978, Bill served five years as general counsel for Clinton Bogert Associates, an environmental engineering firm in New Jersey. Bill holds a JD in law from the University of Iowa and BS in aerospace engineering from Iowa State University. He is admitted to the practice of law in Illinois, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia, and received his professional engineer's license in New Jersey. Bill is former chair of Chief EHS Officers Council I of The Conference Board, a business association, and is currently a senior research fellow at the organization’s Center for Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability. He is co-chair of the Sustainable Development, Ecosystems and Climate Change Committee for the American Bar Association’s section of Environment, Energy, and Resources. At the ABA, he is leading an effort to develop a model sustainability policy and implementation guide for law firms. He is also on the board of advisors of the Environmental Management Program and Center for Sustainable Enterprise of the Stuart Graduate School of Business, Illinois Institute of Technology. In addition, Bill is a member of the Coordinating Committee and chair of the Talent Management Committee of the Stakeholder Council of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a coalition of non-profits, investors, academics, companies, and others promoting public reporting by organizations on sustainability performance. He serves as a GRI delegate to the working group on the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility standard.

 

Gary A. Kusnierz, Vice President, Performance Excellence, Affinity Health

Gary has over 20 years of healthcare and engineering experience. He is the Corporate Director of Development and Construction for Affinity Health System in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Gary graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stout and the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Masters in Engineering Management. Gary is the architect of a three pronged design approach implemented at Affinity Health System.

Evidence Based Design – a rigorous research based process that enhances the patient experience by creating space that that reduces stress, enhances social support and creates a healing environment that offers patients, visitors, and staff a pleasant and relaxing experience.

Sustainable Design – Consistent with the Affinity Health System mission and values, sustainability is an integral part of design and construction with emphasis on LEED certification through the USGBC.

Lean Design - lean principles are being applied to improve the design of new and existing facilities. This improvement initiative allows a constant pursuit of process perfection that maximizes operational efficiencies.

Gary also holds Lean Lead and Lean Masters Certificates and is dedicated to the study, development, and implementation of Lean and Sustainable Principles in healthcare.
 

Beth Beloff, Director of BRIDGES to Sustainability

Beth Beloff is Director of BRIDGES to Sustainability (BRIDGES), the sustainability services group of Golder Associates Inc., a global geotechnical engineering and environmental services organization.  She is also President and Founder of the non-profit organization BRIDGES to Sustainability Institute, which is think tank dedicated to development of innovative approaches to sustainability and educational outreach with respect to implementation of sustainability practices.   She has spent over 15 years as an expert in integrating sustainable development with other critical business aspects, and in particular as a thought leader in how to measure sustainability performance. Under her leadership, BRIDGES developed a set of approaches to support management and technical decision-making with respect to sustainable development. These include collaboration with GEMI on the development of the GEMI Metrics Navigator™ and development of the software, BRIDGESworks Metrics™.  Prior to BRIDGES, Ms. Beloff founded the Institute for Corporate Environmental Management in the business school at the University of Houston.

She has given over 150 speeches on corporate sustainability to university and business audiences and has authored over 30 publications on sustainability, including Transforming Sustainability Strategy into Action: the Chemical Industry, published by Wiley-InterScience in 2005, in which she is principal author and editor. She is currently developing a series of books for children with co-author Dawn Clark on sustainability, Imagine: the Earth Speaks, featuring some of her photography and words that blend sustainability concepts from science to shamanism.

Ms. Beloff has a BA degree from University of California at Berkeley, a Masters of Architecture degree from UCLA, and an MBA from the University of Houston.
